Day Centre Services
There's so much packed into every day, both in and out of the centre
Our activities
Sports
Physical activity is central to wellbeing, and we place a strong emphasis on movement and fitness. Specialist coaches from Disability Sports Coach visit weekly to help develop fundamental skills such as agility, balance, and coordination. In addition, we offer regular swimming sessions at a local pool. These activities are not only fun — they build essential life skills and support long-term health and independence.
Music
Weekly music sessions give clients the opportunity to explore rhythm, sound and melody using a range of instruments. The sessions support communication, listening skills and social interaction, while giving each person an enjoyable way to take part at their own level.
Farming
The weekly FarmWay excursion is a much-loved part of our programme, with clients looking forward to it each week. At Woodberry Farm in Essex, clients take part in hands-on farm work and practical learning, including feeding animals, milking goats, working with wood and building and repairing animal pens.
The programme brings learning to life through practical activities connected to the 39 Melachos. Clients don’t just learn about these concepts in theory — they experience them through hands-on work such as making candles, weaving tzitzis and collecting honey. This gives them a meaningful connection to nature and Jewish learning, while building confidence, and independence in a structured outdoor setting.
Craft workshops
Our craft workshops give clients the chance to learn practical skills through hands-on creative projects. On site, clients make soaps and other crafted items, following each stage of the process from preparation and measuring through to shaping, finishing and presentation. These sessions support focus, coordination and creativity, while giving clients the satisfaction of creating something useful and unique.
Kitchen skills
Learning kitchen skills gives clients the opportunity to prepare food and help cook their own suppers and other meals. Each person takes part according to their ability, from simple preparation tasks to following recipes, handling ingredients and supporting the cooking process. These sessions build confidence, independence, safety awareness and everyday life skills, and our clients love eating food that they helped prepare.
Trips
Clients enjoy a weekly trip out, giving them something exciting to look forward to and a chance to experience the world. Some favourites are bowling, swimming and exciting parks, and we also enjoy attractions and seasonal outings. These outings help clients build confidence in public settings, develop social skills, enjoy fresh experiences and share special memories with friends and staff. For many clients, it is a highlight of the week.
Vocational training
At the day centre, clients take part in practical vocational training designed to build workplace skills in a supportive setting. Through projects with organisations such as Gezint and Muffins, clients help prepare, weigh, pack and label products, learning to follow instructions, work carefully and complete tasks with pride.
Work experience
For clients ready to take the next step, we support work experience opportunities in local shops, factories and community businesses. Clients stack shelves, label goods, organise stock, interact with staff and and serve customers. The pride they feel when they return with their wage lights up the room. It gives them a real sense of worth, builds their confidence and helps them feel recognised as valued, contributing members of the community.
